Wandering around the sights of the Karst

Matavun – Dane pri Divači – Kačiče – Rodik – Kozina – Mihele – Vrhpolje – hrib Kokoš – Lokev – Matavun

From the Škocjan Caves Park, which is famous for diverse and breath-taking karst phenomena, the trail beckons you to explore other peculiarities of the Karst. Close to Divača, especially in the villages of Kačiče and Rodik, some well-preserved cultural monuments bear witness that these settlements were already inhabited in prehistoric times. Through beautifully diverse villages and karst gmajna grasslands, lying in the vicinity of the Slovenian-Italian border, the trail ascends to Kokoš, a 672 m high hill featuring a well-visited mountain hut. Once you descend down into the valley, you will find yourself in the very interesting village of Lokev where you can visit the Tabor Military Museum and the Fabiani Museum Shop or perhaps a very old prosciutto-producing plant. And what about enjoying a good meal in the local restaurant? A leisurely ride will take you back to the starting point in Matavun.
