Trail Of Stone And Bora
Cycling and hiking through the Geopark. Classical Karst Circuit: A cross-border cycling trail to discover the geopark.
Discovering the Classical Karst makes for an exciting journey into the heart of the Karst region, a place where geological peculiarities, history, and unspoiled nature come together. This enchanting cross-border circular trail is about 140 km long, with 60 km in Italy and 80 km in Slovenia, winding through a landscape of exceptional geological and scientific value. It passes by unique geological points and geosites that today preserve memories of the past.
Designed for both hikers and cyclists, the Classical Karst Circuit is a versatile and accessible trail. Experienced cyclists may complete the entire trail in one or two stages, one in Slovenia and the other in Italy, although taking more time allows for a richer and more immersive experience. Breaking the path into shorter segments makes it ideal for those seeking a more relaxed pace, offering the chance to discover underground caves, stone-built villages, picturesque cliffs towering above the sea, Lipizzan horses, and the region’s culinary treasures such as prosciutto and Teran wine.
The trail is open year-round and features extensive intermodal connections, and thus it is easy to combine with public transport or plan customised itineraries. Whether explored in a single adventure or over multiple visits, everyone is invited to come experience the unique charm and complexity of this cross-border geopark revealed by the Classical Karst Circuit.
