Along the Slovenian version of the famous El Camino

The Way of St. James or El Camino de Santiago is the common name given to several ancient pilgrimages, leading from different places to the shrine of the apostle Saint James the Great in the Spanish town of Compostela. Today, these trails constitute the most popular hiking challenges in the world.

The Slovenian Way of St. James starts on the eastern side of Slovenia, in the village of Slovenska vas located close to the Croatian border, and leads all the way to the western state border, to Trieste in Italy. The last stage of the trail runs across the Karst. It ascends from the village of Podraga in the Vipava Valley to the Štjak village, offering beautiful views of the Vipava Valley and the Karst. The trail continues through Karst villages and across the gmajna grasslands, past dry-stone walls up to the village of Dol pri Vogljah, where it crosses the state border and reaches Trieste.
