Along the Slovenian-Italian border

The trail features blue/white circular marks and leads along the Slovenian-Italian border, in the area where the Slovenian national minority in Italy lives. The Vertical mainly runs through the Glinščica Valley, a beautiful karst gorge featuring picturesque overhanging cliffs and many karst spectacles. The trail starts at the watchtower near the village of San Lorenzo (Jezero), continues below the Draški Kras plateau, ascends to Mt. Stena, drops to the village of Botazzo (Botač) and again rises on the opposite slope towards the chapel of Saint Mary on the Rock (Sveta Marija na Pečeh). On the other side, it descends to the Suha Valley and continues along the ridge. At the crossroads, you can turn towards Socerb, following the signposts for the castle. The Vertical is not a circular trail and can also be commenced at the reception centre in the Glinščica Valley. This well-maintained trail is marked up to the Italian town of Muggia (Milje).
