Exploring the area of the Battles of Isonzo
Experience the mysterious, 9-km-long trail across the battlefields of the Battles of Isonzo in the company of an experienced guide.
The trail leads past the remains of military trenches and cemeteries from World War I, and includes a visit to some eye-catching underground caves that were used as military shelters and to store provisions. You will get to see the Krompir Cave, Klobasa Cave and Lojz Cave. The path will take you across karst meadows and fields, past traditional dry-stone walls and a military railway.
You will hear out about the places where you can find wild asparagus (Asparagus officinalis), a culinary treat that is high in both minerals and antioxidants. Wild asparagus is enjoyed as one of the first spring salads. It was once cherished as an aphrodisiac.
