The 38th Vilenica International Literary Festival will run from September 4 to 9 and offer many events in Ljubljana, under the motto “The Diverse Face of Europe.” This topic will be dealt with at the round table of the Central European Initiative, which will take place in Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana.
The central name of the festival and the recipient of the 2023 Vilenica 2023 award is the Hungarian writer from Vojvodina Ottó Tolnai; this year’s Slovenian Author in Focus is the poet Barbara Korun.
In addition to the two central authors, this year’s Vilenica has invited Slovenian and international creators of fine literature: Jake Buttigieg (Malta), Marij Čuk (Italy/Slovenia), Gašper Kralj (Slovenia), Ariane Koch ( Switzerland), Wojciech Kuczok (Poland), Silke Scheuermann (Germany), Max Sessner (Germany), Shpëtim Selmani (Kosovo), Thomas Stangl (Austria), Jan Škrob (Czech Republic) and Tonia Tzirita Zaharatu (Greece).
The 38th Vilenica focuses on contemporary literature from Austria and Germany and will be publishing an anthology of authors writing in German, while organizing a program for literary intermediaries.
As part of the festival, the 21st International Comparative Literature Colloquium will also be held. It will discuss the connection between literature and the psyche.
