Starc Winery

In the picturesque Karst village of Tomaj, surrounded by stone houses and vineyards shaped for centuries by the strong bora wind and the region’s distinctive red soil, our family story is being written – the story of Starc winery.

This is not simply a story about wine, but first and foremost a story about people. Bogomil Starc, a deaf winemaker, has shown throughout his life that true passion needs no words. Through perseverance, hard work and a deep love of the land, he created a wine cellar that now tells visitors a story of courage, dedication and strong family values.

For many years, his wife Barbara has worked by his side. Together with our children, we care for the vineyards, the wine cellar and the boutique accommodation Hiša 88 as a family. We believe in genuine hospitality, personal connections and respect for traditions passed down from one generation to the next.

We produce Teran, Merlot, Rosé, Malvasia and Vitovska Grganja. We are also proud of our two sparkling wines – Sparkling Rosé and Tomaj Sparkling Wine, made from the Refošk grape variety – as well as our signature Teran liqueur. The quality of our wines has been recognised with numerous awards and distinctions at various wine competitions.

During your visit to our wine cellar, we will be delighted to share our family story, introduce you to our work and guide you through a tasting of wines that reflect the unique character of the Karst and the dedication of our family.
