Official Training of the Lipica Riding School

Watching a training session in Lipica is a unique opportunity to experience firsthand the techniques and methods of the Lipica Riding School. Under the watchful eye of the head trainer, riders perform all the figures seen in the official performance by Lipizzan horses, but in a more relaxed setting. At the end of the session, visitors have the chance to ask the head trainer questions and uncover some of the secrets that make Lipica truly special.

The Lipizzan horse is an exceptionally intelligent breed of horses, capable of making rapid progress under skilled riders. The training process begins when the horses are three years old and may last more than six years. During this time, they not only learn the most demanding dressage figures but also undergo socialisation with other horses and become accustomed to human interaction. The early stages of training focus on building trust between horse and rider, which later allows the rider to teach movements that the horse rarely performs in nature. Training sessions take place year-round in the covered riding hall.
