Kosovel family homestead
The place where the poet Srečko Kosovel lived and created.
In the village of Tomaj, along the main road running between Sežana and Nova Gorica, stands the Kosovel homestead where the famous Slovenian avant-garde poet Srečko Kosovel lived together with his family. It was built in the style of a suburban villa, based on the order of Anton Kosovel.
Today, the Kosovel homestead hosts a memorial collection of the Kosovel family. The poet lived here only for a fraction of his youth and died on 27 May 1926, aged just 22. He was buried in the cemetery within the vicinity of the family house, where all members of the Kosovel family also rest, except for Srečko’s sister Karmela.
Visitors can admire the partly preserved personal belongings and furniture of this great poet of the Karst and his family. Although the Kosovel family did not have any descendants, its heart still beats within the house walls.
