Culinary tour of Brkini with e-bikes

The hilly world of Brkini is best experienced from the saddle. On a guided bike tour, you'll enjoy the beautiful views, local flavours and local history of Brkini.

The region of Brkini is famous for its excellent fruit production. On this 30 km route we will taste what can be made from the sweet fruits of Brkini. During the ride, we will visit four local providers of goodies, take in the stunning views and visit some sights. We will climb at least 700 metres, so an electric mountain or trekking bike is recommended.

The start and finish of the tour are in the Rodik Mythical Park, where you will first discover the local narrative tradition. From there, we will go for a sweet honey tasting at the Bernetič beekeeping centre. We will follow the Lintver trail of the Mythical Park to the highest point of Brkini, the Chapel of St Socerb, perched above the village of Artviže. From there, we will continue along the ridge scenic road to the typical cluster village of Orehek, where we will be served local dry-cured meats and traditional štruklji (rolled dumplings) at the Vatovec Organic Farm. After a few beautiful views, the road will descend to Velike Loče, where we will be welcomed by the hospitable landlady Katja, who cooks the most delicious Brkini traditional dishes from her produce at the Babuder Tourist Farm.

On the way back to Rodik, we will stop at the Pri Filetu Tourist Farm, where the first Slovenian knight of brandy, Mr Franc, locally known as File, will introduce us to the importance of fruit in Brkini and the process of distilling Brkinski slivovec (plum brandy) and Kraški brinjevec (juniper brandy).
