To the heart of Brkini
Discover Brkini and taste the local delights.
Descend 40 m underground, into the Dimnice cave, which impresses with its many dripstone formations. According to their size, they could easily feature in the Guinness World Records.
After visiting the cave, you can drive to the village of Slivje, which lies at an altitude of 574 m. In the centre of the village, St. Martin’s church features some unique frescoes by Tone Kralj, a famous Slovenian artist and great patriot. He boldly portrayed negative figures from biblical stories as fascist, and in the round reliefs of the Way of the Cross, depicted the horrors of the war and the suffering of the Slovenian nation.
We will conclude the experience with a tasting of Brkini delights on the Renko Family Farm. The favourable climate is ideal for growing the most delicious and aromatic varieties of apples, pears, and plums. Brkini apples have always been known far and wide, and were sold in Vienna, Paris, and London.
