The house was built in 1838 in the heart of the Karst, while the restaurant, boasting a 50-year family tradition of catering, is furbished in a nostalgic Karst style. The windows open out onto the gardens, where the best karst herbs and vegetables grow from the soil and stones.
Even today, the kitchen of the Skok restaurant (Restavracija Skok) is famous for the recipes of grandmother Lilijana who used to pamper her husband, grandfather Milan, with sauerkraut stew ‘jota’ with a sausage, potato gnocchi, or venison. The family’s motto is that food is life and that life must not draw away from nature. For as long as they can remember, they have been cooking everything grown in their gardens and meadows. They are proud of the designation ‘Hand-cut prosciutto’ which is a traditional Karst skill to be mastered. A glass of Teran wine is always served with prosciutto.
