The Karst living museum

The Karst Living Museum, hidden treasure of nature with treasure of Karst phenomena.

With typical karst features such as karst dolines, uvalas, sinkholes, grikes, abysses, and of course, underground caves, the living museum of Karst area, which extends over 700 hectares, is defined as ecologically important area and its larger part belongs among the Natura 2000 sites. The Karst Living Museum was chosen for the 2017 best themed route in Slovenia.

For almost a half of a century, the area was closed to the public. It represents the natural and cultural heritage of typical Karst and it covers the area between Sežana, Lipica and former Slovenian-Italian border, along the axis connecting the old Austro-Hungarian road Sežana - Bazovica.

Thematic and cross-border recreational trails are constructed under the auspices of the museum, with marked points of interest. They also implement changes to protect biodiversity of the area.
