Guided tour of the Srečko Kosovel Memorial Room
Embark on a literary journey in the Srečko Kosovel Memorial Room
Learn about the memorial room’s unique architecture and how it was designed. Get to know the great Slovenian poet better, find out where he lived and worked, where he found inspiration for his creativity and what his plans were. Explore Kosovel’s literary legacy and the peculiarities of his era. Leaf through different publications of the poet’s works in Slovenian and translations in other languages.
The memorial room is located in Sežana, in a former school building which today hosts an adult education centre. Srečko Kosovel was born in this building on 18 March 1904 and his memorial room was set up in 1976. The first conceptual design was made by the architect Janez Suhadolc.
The space is designed in a constructivist style, guiding visitors through the life and literary creation of one of the greatest Slovenian poets. Through narration, a documentary film and many exhibition items – topped with a reading of fragments of the poet's works – visitors can explore the creative wealth of a young poet who, with his authenticity, relevance, criticism and visionary mind, is still a source of inspiration for us, almost one hundred years later.
The programme includes:
- a guided tour of the memorial room,
- a presentation on Kosovel’s life and work,
- a film about Kosovel’s life and work,
- a presentation of exhibition items.
From Monday to Friday, 8.00–16.00 It is possible to visit any day of the year by prior arrangement.
