Brkinian plum brandy and Karst juniper brandy, with protected designation of origin

The Brkinian plum brandy and Karst juniper brandy produced by the ‘Pri Filetu’ tourist farm selected by the Tourist Association of Slovenia in the Mediterranean & Karst region culinary souvenir contest

“One plum – one tot”, men reason during winter while sitting around their copper pots and distilling brandy.
“The Karst juniper brandy is a medicine! It heals many ailments.”

Brkinian plum brandy is a high-quality natural product made by distilling fermented plum mash, consisting of autochthonous varieties of plums that are grown in the geographical area of Brkini. The designation of Brkinian plum brandy guarantees that the autochthonous varieties of plums are used, only from the area that corresponds to the criteria for designation of geographical origin.

In the Karst and also in Brkini, Karst juniper brandy has been produced for over 200 years. For one litre of juniper brandy, 10 to 15 kg of juniper berries are required. The protected designation of origin means that the berries are picked in specific areas, while processing is done using a single technology and single labelling.

Diversity of temperatures and sunlight is the key element to ensure top quality fruits and berries – this is reflected in the home-made Brkinian plum brandy and Karst juniper brandy.

At the ‘Pri Filetu’ tourist farm, we live our lives according to tradition and offer our visitors an experience of country life. We make use of what nature has to offer and we treasure it like gold.
