From the Julian Alps to the Adriatic Sea

The Alpe Adria Trail is an international hiking trail that winds through three countries. It commences at the foot of Mt. Grossglockner in Austria and continues through Slovenia to the Italian town of Muggia beside the Adriatic Sea. The two penultimate stages lead from Italy through the Karst. From spectacular views of the Adriatic Sea to the mysterious underground world, the two stages will expose you to the world of karst phenomena and unique natural beauties.

Stage 35 from Prosecco (IT) to Lipica will bring you to the heart of the astonishing Karst plateau. Cross the Slovenian state border in the Gropada village and visit the Karst Living Museum where you can learn about many karst wonders. The trail continues to the Equestrian Park Lipica where the world’s oldest stud farm breeding Lipizzan horses without interruption operates. You can also enjoy a good meal and stay overnight.
