Up and down from Trieste to the Karst

Cottur cycle path from Trieste (district of San Giacomo) – Draga Sant’Elia – Kozina – Lipica – Basovizza/ Bazovica – Gropada – Bagnoli della Rosandra/Boljunec – then again on the Cottur cycle path

Here we offer you the experience of an encounter between the city and the country: from St. James, that is one of the working districts of Trieste, now populated by a multi-ethnic community including many Slovenes and Serbs, the route climbs to the idyllic hills of Draga Sant’Elia and from there passes through the places of pain and memory testified to by the monument to the heroes of Basovizza before arriving in the magical Val Rosandra. Here you can cool off in one of the few rivers in the area and admire what remains of the ancient Roman aqueduct. Do not forget to enjoy a good glass of Refosco and Teran wine: the latter is more acidic than the wine usually produced from the Refosco grape, due to the typical red soil of the Karst limestone.
